About the Role
As the Technician in charge of lighting in the theatre, the ship’s main entertainment venue, you will be running lighting and AV for our production shows on a nightly basis. You will get the chance to work with the latest entertainment technology equipment to support the delivery of the entertainment programme.
Area of responsibility
To deliver the technical lighting side of the entertainment package to an exceptionally high standard.
To run the lighting and AV in the theatre making sure the delivery of the product is always compliant wih company’s guidelines as set during the show install period.
To take ownership of all lighting aspects in the theatre as the Technician in charge of lighting.
To programme and run the lighting for the Guest Entertainers’ shows.
To create and enhance the guest experience on board making sure all events are delivered at the highest technical standard possible.
To ensure events and rehearsals start on time and all technical requirements are met.
To deputise for the Stage Manager, being in a position to ensure the continuity in the production operation in case of illness or absence.
To follow the Stage Manager’s instructions and work schedules and ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with all current safety and company regulations.
Co-ordinate the junior members of the team to complete accurate maintenance and equipment records of all the lighting equipment on board and comply with the cleaning and maintenance schedule for the department. This includes relamping, cleaning fixtures and dimmers to warehouse standard.
To ensure technical standards, product and your professional behaviour is at the highest level of the company. Repair set lighting if necessary.
To train junior ranks within the team up to industry standard.
To ensure that the company's show product is always delivered in its integrity and up to the agreed standard after the install period.
Ensure all ‘special lighting’ and show related lighting is always consistent.
To assist with the staging aspects and set-ups in the theatre as directed .
Assist the hotel operation where required; as instructed by the Cruise Director.
To ensure your appearance and grooming guidelines are always maintained.
To uphold the standards set out in your training.
A position of onboard responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills (full training received on board).
Scope of duties
Reporting to the Stage Manager, the Lighting technician will support the Entertainment Technical Team in delivering the lighting related technical aspects of the entertainment programme in the theatre on board to the highest industry standards. Led by the Stage Manager, the Entertainment Technical Team consists of 4 (Sound, Lighting, Stage Technician and a Stage Manager). The Entertainment Technical Team is part of the Entertainment Department, which also includes a cast of 14. The Entertainment department is directed and coordinated by the onboard Cruise Director.

You will get the chance to work with the latest entertainment technology equipment to support the delivery of the entertainment programme. As a Technician within the Entertainment Technical Team, you will co-direct the production operation in the theatre, supporting the Stage Manager in the management of the team. You will also be responsible, together with the Stage Team, for the set-up of equipment and the strike and build of the theatre sets, including the stage lighting (moving lights, set electrics, etc). If required, you will be also responsible for the maintenance and resolution of any lighting technical issues in the venue. If required by the Head Technician, you will be also responsible for the maintenance and resolution of any technical issues in the venues around the ship.
As a member of the Entertainment Department, a position of responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills; specific training will be received regarding this, both prior to joining and regularly on board.
Qualification/Work Experience
The Lighting technician should have at least 4 years of relevant industry qualifications in lighting or equivalent or relevant work experience.
Operational and set-up knowledge of Audio Visual equipment is mandatory.
In-depth knowledge of the Grand MA2 lighing console, Robe and Martin moving lights, ETC dimmers is mandatory.
Experience of working in large venues on a variety of entertainment programmes i.e. production show, concert, theatre and individual acts is desirable.
The Lighting technician must have good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within the production environment.
